There are things many others must have observed in their dreams : that dream-time can be eternities and aeons~ This note is about a dream I had In Thiruvanathapuram in a hotel near statue when I resided there for a few days
I had gone through years encountering the Deities in one way or another! But that is a vast residual purana ~ So i will leave it for another occassion when all becomes seamless & divine….
One deity never appeared in my yogic experiences and dreams! That was Skanda ! Like moronic marxists etc. I doubted if he is dravidian incorpration etc.
For a few months the word “Sanat Kumara” came into my mind! I wanted to know more about him.
Around that time I met my cousin Dr.Venkatesh at Tenkashi and instinctively asked him if he knew who Sanat-kumara was.He said he was Brahma’s maanasa putra who later become Shiva’s and Parvati’s son Skanda/ Kaartikeya/Muruga/Arumukha: he gave me a short version of the puranaic episode!
My dream in Thiruvanathapuram Hotel was truly indescribable! How I can describe the Vision of a whole Purana in one night’s dream.
It was Cosmic Creation ~ Vishnu All Pervasive In Yoga-Nidra ~ Brahma Erupts on the Lotus from his naabhi. Eternities Pass on ~ Brahma’s manasa Putra-s Become Manifest ~ Among them Sanat Kumara too is present .
Sanat Kumara being A Brahma Jnaani ignores his function and nothing could be done to change him.
Then one day Sanat Kumara has a dream of Himself leading the Deva-s against the Asura-s.
Then, Lord Shiva comes to meet Sanat Kumara. He asks Sanat Kumara if he would take any boon and become an emperor of divine worlds. Sanat Kumara politely refuses the offer and tells the Lord it is all the same for him. Then the Lord tells him “I can put you in terrible hells!” Sanat Kumara replies that even that would make no difference to him.
Lord Shiva is intensely pleased and now requests Sanat Kumara for a boon. Sanat Kuman consents and the Lord says " I want you to be my son"
Sanat Kumara agrees to grant the boon when Devi mother Parvathi too appears there! She is intensely pleased and she says " So Sanat Kumara you are going to be my son"
Sanat Kumara replies " I agreed to be only his son! Not your son! "
So Skanda is born from the fire of the third eye of Shiva [ the fire that burnt Kamadeva into ashes as he tried to disturb his Tapas.]
This fire was so fierce it was impossible even for Agni to bear it. This fire was transported by Ganga and in SaraVana forest Sara Vana Bhava was born as six babies. The Kartika devi’s nurture him. Parvati unites these six babies into one baby with six faces[ Shanmukha ]
Kaartikeya leads the Deva Army to victory after slaying the asura-s
Taarakaasuran, Surapadman and their vast demon army.
It was meta-cosmic episode that was revealed to me as an answer to my personal doubts
The six punyasthalam-s [ divine places ] where Kaartikeya sojourned while leading the deva army against Surapadman are Tiruttanikai, Swamimalai, Tiruvavinankudi (Palani), Pazhamudirsolai Tirupparamkunram and Tiruchendur. All these sites have ancient temples glorified by the Tamil poems of Tirumurugaatruppadai of the Sangam period ~
