Alice looking through the window
Alice looking through the glass
Alice smiles away her fears
Alice is in wonderland
Alice is a wonderland ~
Alice has the sun for her eyes
The stars become singing birds around her
The trees waltz in sheer ecstasy
The pebbles and the river in a choir
The lilies and lotuses sing lullaby
Lulling spectral butterflies to lazy dreams
Alice has the moon for her mirror-mind
Seasons twilight and dawn bloom in her
The ageless ages and the ageing aeons
Flutter gently her lyric eyelashes ~
Liquid grace divines her sacred dance
Flowing through floral spaces of pure delight ~
She is ether ether eternal ether
Alice, the forgotten innocence
In Eve’s ageless miracle being ~
The Apocalypse resolved on the earth ~
The singular signs of primal perfections
Revealed in her strange rhythms ~
The last hells of fetid squalor
Absorbed absolved in the radiance
Of her primordial purity ~ Alice ~
Alice looking through the window
Alice looking through the glass
Alice smiles away her fears
Alice is in wonderland
Alice is a wonderland ~
circa 1987
Note ~
I have not so far read Lewis Carroll’s “Alice In Wonderland” so far, because cosmic serendipity did not let it happen ~ But I had vague ideas about what it is from hearsay ~ This poem is inspired by an unknown girl ~ I named her Alice ~ Those who have read “Alice In Wonderland” will surely give it a different subjective reading ~ Deconstruct it differently with a different sensorium if I may say so ~ The text naturally invites multiple readings beyond the author ~
